Partnering with Jon’s Success Story
Senior Abilities Unlimited is proud to have the Tandem Strength & Balance® program as part of Jon's success story.
Jon, 51, had a brain tumor removed. Four months following the surgery his rehabilitation was discontinued because he was not making progress. Jon lived in a nursing home because he had stroke-like symptoms including severe weakness on his right side and he had difficulty expressing himself. Jon needed total assistance changing his position in bed and the staff used a mechanical lift to move him out of bed. Jon spent the whole day in bed except for meals.
A year following his surgery, Jon began using Tandem Strength and Balance. It was a slow, but steady process. One and a half years later Jon could get in and out of bed whenever he wished without asking for help. His wife Lois says “We are very grateful to Senior Abilities Unlimited. When we started Jon couldn’t use his legs at all because of a stroke. Without Tandem Strength and Balance training he would be bedridden, instead he now walks with a walker.”
Progression continued during the next year. He began walking independently with his walker and was able to climb a flight of stairs with only supervision. Jon began participating in one of his passions- playing trumpet in church. A proud moment for Jon and his family was when he walked down the aisle for his daughter’s wedding.
Jon continues to participate with Tandem Strength and Balance to maintain his mobility and independence and see what he will accomplish next.
